University Chorus to present spring concert April 16

The University of South Carolina Chorus will usher in the season with its annual spring concert Friday, April 16, at St. Andrew’s Baptist Church, 230 Bush River Road.

The 7:30 p.m. performance is free and open to the public.

Led by Joseph Modica, the chorus will perform selections from several genres of choral music. Included will be Mozart’s “Missa Brevis in d minor” accompanied by a string ensemble, as well as the “Prelusio” from Carl Orff’s cantata, “Catulli Carmina,” and selections from oratorios by Haydn, Handel and Mendelssohn. The concert will conclude with three of the most beloved opera choruses in the repertoire: “Va Pensiero” from “Nabucco,” “The Humming Chorus” from “Madame Butterfly” and “Libiamo ne’leiti calici” (Brindisi) from “La Traviata.”
