Gulf oil spill topic of business panel Sept. 17
Faculty from the Darla Moore School of Business will participate in a public panel discussion on the gulf oil spill and BP’s responsibility Friday, Sept. 17.
Titled “Gulf Oil Spill: How Much Should BP Pay?” the panel is free and will take place from 4 -5 p.m. in Lumpkin Auditorium on the eighth floor of the University of South Carolina’s business school.
The panel will feature assistant professors of economics Dr. Stephen Finger and Dr. Jason Murray and finance scholar Dr. Jean Helwege, J. Henry Fellers Professor of Business Administration. Helwege joined the Moore School faculty last December; she is a former economist with the Federal Reserve Board and the Federal Reserve Bank in New York. Dr. Bruce Meglino, distinguished professor emeritus of management, will moderate the panel, which will explore topics such as how the environmental damage assessment will be done, whether industry self-regulation works and the legal and social obligations resulting from the oil spill.
The event is held in conjunction with the USC Parents Weekend.
