USC School of Music presents world-class guitar festival
The University of South Carolina School of Music, in conjunction with its guitar program, invite the public to the 2011 Rosario Guitar Festival and Competition May 12 – 15. The festival will include master classes, workshops, a competition and performances by some of the world’s finest guitarists. The adult and youth competition features cash prizes of more than $2,600.
The Rosario Guitar Festival is a four-day event filled with the sounds of classical, Spanish and Latin guitar music. International recording and performing artists to be featured include Nicholas Goluses, Marco Sartor, Edel Munoz, Elliot Frank, You Wang and Jonathan Gangi. Guest artist recitals and other ticketed events include the following:
Thursday, May 12—7:30 p.m. – Jonathan Gangi and Elliot Frank.
Friday, May 13—7:30 p.m. – You Wang and Edel Munoz.
Saturday, May 14—4:30 p.m. – Division II Finals Concert.
Saturday, May 14—7:30 p.m. – Division I Finals Concert.
Sunday, May 15—11:30 a.m. – Rosario Guitar Orchestra Concert
Sunday, May 15—1 p.m. – Marco Sartor and Nicholas Goluses.
Tickets for evening concerts are $15 for adults and $10 for students. For Sunday's events, a single ticket purchase provides admission to the two concerts.
All concerts are held in the USC School of Music recital hall.
On Thursday and Friday of the festival, collegiate and youth competitors will battle for cash prizes in the largest guitar competition in South Carolina. All competition events are open to the public.
The project is funded by the Cultural Council of Richland and Lexington Counties and the South Carolina Arts Commission, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the John and Susan Bennett Memorial Arts Fund of the Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina.
