Sunoco CEO to speak at USC Nov. 9

Sunoco Inc. CEO Lynn Elsenhans will give a public talk about the challenges of leading of one America’s leading petroleum companies Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the University of South Carolina.

The lecture will take place at 9 a.m. in Lumpkin Auditorium, located on the eighth floor of the Darla Moore School of Business. A continental breakfast will be available beginning at 8 a.m. in an area adjacent to the auditorium. The event and breakfast are free and open to the public and are part of the Moore School’s Wells Fargo Lecture Series.

Elsenhans’ talk, titled “Overcoming Barriers to Personal and Organizational Success,” will address leadership challenges in a corporate context, within the petroleum industry and as the first female CEO and board chairman for Sunoco.

After a successful 28-year international career with the Royal Dutch/Shell Group, Elsenhan joined Sunoco as CEO in August 2008 and was named chairman of its board in January 2009. She also was named board chairman of Sunoco Logistics in October 2008 and CEO of Sunoco Logistics in July 2010. Sunoco Logistics is Sunoco’s partner company, responsible for operating crude oil and refined products pipelines and storage facilities.

Elsenhans, who lives in Philadelphia, earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematical science from Rice University and an MBA from Harvard University. She serves on Rice’s board of trustees and its Council of Overseers for its Jones Graduate School of Management. She also serves on the boards of International Paper Co., the Texas Medical Center and the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
