The School of Visual Art and Design at USC boasts the most comprehensive Visual Arts
program in South Carolina. We offer undergraduate and graduate degrees in Art Education,
Art History, Studio Art, and Media Arts.
Our Faculty Leads
Our faculty members possess national and international reputations in their areas of expertise and are
a cohesive group of cutting-edge professionals dedicated to art and teaching. We have
32 full-time faculty members, all with terminal degrees in their fields.
In the last five years, our faculty members have participated in more than 320 fine
art exhibitions, held 175 screenings of films, video, and media art, and published
10 scholarly books, 42 articles or book chapters, and several screenplays. They share
their passion for art with you, making SVAD a dynamic place to learn and grow.
Our Programs Inspire
Undergraduate students interested in art history, studio art, and media art can pursue the Bachelor of Arts
(BFA) with a general major. Undergraduate students interested in teaching can earn
the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education. For practicing or aspiring artists, a
BFA in Studio Art is available with more intense concentrations.
Graduate students can pursue one of seven degrees in our department: the Master of Arts in Teaching in Art Education (M.A.T.), the M.A. in Art Education,
the Interdisciplinary Master of Arts in Art Education (I.M.A.), the M.A. in Art History,
the M.A. in Art Studio, the Master of Fine Arts in Art Studio (M.F.A.) or the M.A.
in Media Arts.
