Regional Campuses earned the Leadership in Research Award for research activities resulting in the strongest funding growth during 20002001. Other units receiving that award were the School of Law, Earth Sciences and Resources Institute, and the College of Education. The colleges of Science and Mathematics and Engineering and Information Technology received a Collaborative Award for developing the NanoCenter.
The Focal Points of Excellence Award provided additional funding to the Center for Full Cell Research and to the Center for the Philosophy and Ethics of Complexity and Scale.
The reception also recognized those receiving seed grants and equipment grants from the USC Research Foundation.
