Spring scholarship workshops begin March 4

The Office of Fellowships and Scholar Programs has announced the following spring schedule of workshops and special events:
- March 4 Rotary Scholarship, 4 p.m., Gressette Room, Harper College. Scholars serve as ambassadors abroad while studying for one academic year or three months of language training. Any country where Rotary Clubs are located is considered. All class levels eligible to apply.
- March 24 Rhodes Scholarship, 4 p.m., Gressette Room, Harper College. Full scholarship for two to three years of study at Oxford University: tuition, fees, living expenses, books, travel to and from the United States. Literary and scholarship ability, strong GPA, record of service and leadership, well informed on global issues, physically vigorous, and no older than 24 years of age in Oct. 2003. The University must nominate applicants; direct applications to the Rhodes Committee not accepted.
- March 24 Marshall Scholarship, 4 p.m., Gressette Room, Harper College. Two years of study at any university in Great Britain: tuition, fees, books, living expenses, travel to and from the United States. Graduating seniors and graduate students, GPA 3.70 or better, record of service and leadership, well informed on global issues. Must be nominated by the University; the British Consulate will not accept direct applications.
- April 7 Goldwater Scholarship, 4 p.m., Gressette Room, Harper College. Scholarship of $7,500 for one to two years of undergraduate study. Rising sophomores and juniors pursuing bachelors' degrees in natural sciences, mathematics, or engineering; intent to earn a graduate degree in these fields to pursue a career in research and/or college-level teaching; strong GPA and research experience. Must be nominated by the University; no direct applications to the Goldwater Foundation accepted.
- April 8 Udall Scholarship, 4 p.m., Conference Room, Harper College. One year of support for eligible expenses for tuition, fees, books, room and board, up to a maximum of $5,000. Sophomores and juniors, especially Native American and Alaska Natives, with demonstrated interest in and potential for careers in the fields of environmental public policy, healthcare, tribal public policy. College GPA of at least a B or equivalent; must be nominated by the University.
- April 9 National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowships, 4 p.m., Gressette Room, Harper College. Three years of support for study and research in the sciences or engineering, leading to masters or doctoral degrees in the mathematical, physical, biological, engineering, behavioral, and social sciences, and in the history and philosophy of sciences awarded to graduating seniors and first year graduate students. High GPA and high GRE General and Subject Test scores and a commitment to a career in research.
- April 10 Truman Scholarship, 4 p.m., Conference Room, Harper College. Scholarships up to $30,000 for graduate school. Rising juniors preparing for a career in public service with leadership abilities, academic performance and potential, community service records eligible to apply. Must be nominated by the University.
- April 14 Fulbright Grant, 4 p.m., Gressette Room, Harper College. Calculated on the cost of living in the host country for nine months and on the cost of travel to and from the United States; settling-in allowances, health insurance, tuition waivers. Graduating seniors and graduate students with clear program of study proposed in a particular academic setting abroad.
- April 25 Afternoon Tea, 2 p.m., location TBA
A gathering to talk about Britain and advanced academic study. Students interested in Marshall, Rhodes, Gates Cambridge, or Mitchell Scholarships are especially encouraged to attend. Invitations will be sent in early April. RSVP required.
- April 30 Fellowships and Scholar Programs Year-End Reception, 4 p.m., Gressette Room, Harper College
A celebration for applicants to national scholarship and fellowship competitions and the faculty and staff who support them. Invitations sent in early April. RSVP required.
