Sophomore named Udall Scholar

Laura Sima, a McNair Scholar sophomore majoring in chemistry, has been named a 2005 Udall Scholar.
The highly competitive national scholarship is awarded to college sophomores and juniors who study the environment and related fields. Anne Cooper Ellefson, a junior chemistry major from Greenville, received an honorable mention.
Sima, from Burnsville, Minn., plans to pursue a Ph.D. in environmental aquatic chemistry, and her research interest centers on the effects of pharmaceuticals within water supplies. Her campus involvement includes Students Allied for a Greener Earth, the Green Party at USC, and the Feminist Majority Leadership.
Since 1999, USC has had eight Udall Scholar winners and one honorable mention.
