Workplace violence workshop set for Nov. 10

USC’s Professional Development Office, in a cooperative effort with the Division of Law Enforcement and Safety, will offer a workshop from 8:45 a.m. to noon Nov. 10 to address the emerging issue of violence at work and on college campuses. "Violence in the Workplace" will be held in the University Technology Services Auditorium.

The workshop is offered free of charge to University employees. University managers, supervisors, safety managers, and human resource contacts especially are encouraged to attend.

Workplace violence is the second leading cause of death for all workers. Recognizing the signs of potentially violent behavior is crucial if managers are to maintain worker safety.

Workshop participants will learn to identify signs of potentially violent behavior, gain critical skills to defuse volatile situations before they escalate, and learn what to do if violence erupts.

For more information, including how to register for the workshop, go to http://hr.sc.edu/profdevp/classes/violence.html.
