The USC Department of Art will host two prominent artists from Atanta March 1 and 2.
Susan Cofer and Kathy King will speak and exhibit their work at McMaster during their visit.
Cofer, well known for her sensitive and enigmatic organic form drawings, lives and works in Atlanta.
"My art doesn't have a political or social agenda. Rather, I feel it comes from a spiritual place," she said. Her drawings have been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the U.S., including the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington D.C., the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, and the prestigious Heath Gallery in Atlanta. Her work is in the permanent collections of the High Museum of Art, The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia, and private collections around the country and abroad.
King, an assistant professor in ceramics at Georgia State University, creates drawn or carved forms that force the viewer to reflect on culture, ritual, and their own mortality. She received her MFA from the University of Florida. She has exhibited nationally and internationally at such venues as SPACE Lab, Cleveland, OH; Erie Art Museum in Erie, PA; World Ceramics Exposition, Seoul, Korea; Odyssey Gallery, Asheville, NC; and Blue Spiral Gallery, Asheville, NC.
