"Five Leaders, Six Decades: Artwork by the Chairs of the University of South Carolina Art Department" is on display at the Columbia Museum of Art through June 18. The exhibit celebrates the art department's growth and honors the five chairs who have led the department.
Covering a wide range of mediums, the chairs each had their own talents to offer students. Edmund Yaghjian was a painter, John C. Benz's focus was graphic design and art education, John O'Neil was a painter and art educator, Bob Lyon is a sculptor, and Phillip Dunn is a photographer and art educator.
The Columbia Museum of Art is located at the northwest corner of Main and Hampton streets. Museum hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday; 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday; 1-5 p.m. Sunday; closed Monday and Tuesday. Admission is $5 adults, $2 students, $4 senior citizens, free for museum members and children under 6. Every Saturday is free.
