Mass Communications, Information Studies sets third-annual I-Comm Week April 3-8

The College of Mass Communications and Information Studies' third annual I-Comm Week will be held April 3-8.

I-Comm (Information-Communication)Week is the college's opportunity to shine a spotlight on each of the disciplines in the college's journalism and library schools with speakers, workshops, and events for students, alumni and friends, according to Dean Charles Bierbauer.

"It's our chance to focus on the hot issues facing us and the cool things our college is doing," said Bierbauer, adding that the theme of this year's events is "Inspiring a New Generation."

The public is invited to the following events:

  • April 3, 10:10-11 a.m., "The video essay: Multimedia Storytelling at the Rocky Mountain News," Sonya Doctorian, photojournalist, Rocky Mountain News, Room 3001 Coliseum; 3:30-5 p.m., "Rights and Wrongs in Journalism," Carl Stepp, senior editor, American Journalism Review, Room 3020A Coliseum.
  • April 4, 12:30-1:45 p.m., "You Can Get Anywhere From Here," Andy Bosman, executive director, marketing and corporate communication, Navigant Consulting, Russell House Ballroom; 2-3 p.m., "Public Relations Challenges of the Transportation Industry," Sonja Whitemon, manager of corporate media relations, American Airlines, Russell House Ballroom; 3:30-4:45 p.m., The 'Boomeracracy:' What Marketers Need to Know about the Generation that Just Won't Go Away," Jeff Johnson, former president, WestWayne Advertising, Russell House Ballroom; 5:30-6:45 p.m., "The Good, the Bad and the (Sometimes) Ugly: Confessions of Two PR Junkies," Allison Aiken, assistant account executive, Trone PR/Trellis Communications, and David Mullen, account executive, Trone Public Relations, Russell House Ballroom

  • April 6, 12:30-1:45 p.m., "Campaigns and Crises in Corporate Communications," Gordon Lambourne, senior vice president of public relations, Marriott, Russell House Theater; 2-3:15 p.m., "Do You Need to Entertain in Order to Sell?" Ed Wax, chairman emeritus, Saatchi & Saatchi Worldwide, Russell House Theater; 3:30-4:45 p.m., "Winning the Super Bowl of Advertising," creative directors/senior vice presidents Steve Bougdanos and Patrick Knoll of DDB Chicago will receive the third annual Cocky Award for the Best Super Bowl Commercial of 2006, Russell House Theater; 5:30-6:45 p.m., "Denny's Diversity Story," Ray Hood, Denny's chief diversity officer, and Debbie Atkins, director of PR, Denny's, Russell House Theater; 6:30-7:30 p.m., Beta Phi Mu Induction Ceremony; 7:30-10 p.m., SLIS Deans' Lecture: "Literacy Barriers in Society: How Communication and Information Research and Education Can Make a Difference," Carol Collier Kuhlthau, Center for International Scholarship in School Libraries, Rutgers University, speaks as part of the SLIS Deans' Lecture and Awards Presentation, Amoco Hall, Swearingen Engineering Center, reception follows.
