Summer enrichment program wins award

The Carolina Master Scholars Adventure Series program at USC has won the 2006 University Continuing Education Association Award for Program of Excellence-Noncredit Programs.

The summer program is designed for academically talented youth, and the award was based on the program's accomplishments in enrolling ethnically and economically diverse students. The award was presented Oct. 16 at the University Continuing Education Association annual meeting in Daytona Beach. USC's Office of Academic Enrichment and Conferences in the Division of Regional Campuses and Continuing Education will receive the award.

This past summer, participation in Carolina Master Scholars Adventure Series more than tripled. In addition, 33 percent of participants were minority and 49 percent were females. Of the students who attended an Adventure series and were of college age, 63 percent enrolled at USC.
