The Ray Tanner Foundation announced its support of two new causes at its second annual benefit and auction in Columbia Jan. 28.
The first grant was awarded to The Family Shelter of Columbia. The shelter provides support to homeless families to help them transition to permanent housing and a stable family life. The second grant was given to The Nurturing Center, which provides needed and effective services for child victims of abuse and neglect.

The foundation, a 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt, non-profit organization, has given $30,000 in grants in its first year of existence.
The foundation also supports the building of a Miracle Field in the Midlands. The specially designed field for children and adults with physical and mental disabilities will feature a specialized synthetic surface that will enable handicapped children and adults to play baseball.
The foundation is supporting the field's construction from proceeds of its Ray of Hope wristbands available at www.RayTannerFoundation.org. Also available on the Web site is information on the foundation's second annual "Home" Run and the Inaugural Fall Classic Golf Tournament.
