Barbecue exhibit at McKissick Museum opens May 10

Barbecue Joints & The Good Folks Who Own Them will be on display at McKissick Museum May 10-July 19.

The exhibit is free and open to the publc.

The exhibit is drawn from the companion book, BBQ Joints: Stories and Secret Recipes from the Barbecue Belt, by author and photographer David Gelin, who gathered information by traveling thousands of miles from the Carolinas to Texas with his dog as navigator.

David Gelin
Gelin documented a variety of barbecue restaurants and the proprietors who keep the tradition going. Through extensive black-and-white and color images, paired with contextual information, the author takes the visitor on a remarkable visual journey through the heart of barbecue country.

Photos in the exhibit include those of Memphis landmark Payne's Bar-B-Q. Gelin sampled the legendary food at Payne's Bar-B-Q, where the sandwiches have been described as "10 degrees above Heaven."
