Get Help

Finding the right help at the right time can make a big difference in your mental health. UofSC provides students with access to preventive and clinical mental health services right on campus. The Counseling & Psychiatry department can help you find the program or service that best suits your mental health needs.

Preventative Programs

Counseling & Psychiatry:

Online Counseling

Therapist Assisted Online (TAO) is a seven-week to nine-week program split into daily homework, weekly exercises of 30 – 40 minutes and a weekly 10 – 15 minute video consultation with a counselor.

Group Counseling

Find encouragement, understanding and support from others facing similar issues. Students meet in groups of six to ten with one or two trained therapists.

Individual Counseling

Work one-on-one with a trained and licensed mental health provider to work toward growth and self-improvement in a safe and confidential environment.

Couples Counseling

Available for all intimate relationships regardless of sexual orientation or identity to help couples strengthen their relationships, address a specific concern or get pre-marital counseling. One partner must be an enrolled UofSC student eligible for counseling services.

Psychiatry

Our providers can help with psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis and treatment recommendations for mental, emotional and behavioral conditions. If needed, psychiatrists can prescribe medications and arrange for ongoing monitoring and coordination with other healthcare professionals.

Community Referrals

ThrivingCampus is a community-based referral program for students at the UofSC-Columbia campus to use when seeking a local provider for counseling or psychiatry services.  Students are able to identify providers in the local area, view specific information on a provider’s practice and contact them for a potential appointment.

Scope of Care

Our Counseling and Psychiatry Department provides essential therapy and emotional wellness services, but there may be some services that fall outside our scope of care.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
