New Open Access Agreement Lets USC Columbia Authors Publish in Springer Nature Journals at No Cost

A new open access agreement between the Carolina Consortium and Springer Nature will allow current USC Columbia corresponding authors to publish articles in hybrid journals in eligible Springer Nature journals at no cost.

Springer Nature publishes more than 3000 journals across a wide range of academic disciplines, with particular emphasis on science, technology, medicine, and social science.

The Springer Nature agreement is one of a growing number of open access publishing opportunities available to USC-affiliated authors. A full list of current open access agreements is available on University Libraries’ Publishing Open Access page.

Full eligibility details as well as workflows, guides and information on submission are available on Springer Nature’s Information for Authors page.

There are a limited number of articles covered by this initiative each calendar year, and publication coverage is available on a first-come-first-served basis. Interested authors should use their institutional email address for all correspondence.

The Carolina Consortium enables libraries in North Carolina and South Carolina to use their bulk purchasing power to obtain favorable pricing on a variety of electronic resources that are of significant interest to the scholarly community. The consortium also negotiated an open access deal with Wiley that is now in its third year.

“Facilitating the dissemination of USC-produced research is important to the Libraries,” said Amie Freeman, University Libraries’ Scholarly Communications Librarian. “Participation in open access agreements allows authors to make their works more discoverable and accessible to the global community, and we are glad to be able to support USC researchers as they navigate the publication process.”
