Professor Leslie G. Wiser, Jr. was presented with the 2018 Outstanding Citizen Award by the Columbia Police Department in recognition of his "outstanding effort and contributions to the Columbia Police Department's mission." The award was primarily based on his assistance with the Reaching Inner City Kids (RISK) Program, as well as his efforts in support of their Internship Program.
