Lili Ju and Zhu Wang Awarded DOE Grant

Dr. Lili Ju (PI) and Dr. Zhu Wang (Co-PI) were awarded by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science a three-year (2019-2022) research project entitled “Efficient and Scalable Time-Stepping Algorithms and Reduced-Order Modeling for Ocean System Simulations”.

The project team involves researchers and scientists from three institutions: The University of South Carolina (UofSC), Florida State University (FSU), and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The project would develop and implement efficient numerical methods including explicit local time-stepping algorithms, scalable exponential time differencing schemes and reduced-order modeling techniques for the Model Prediction Across Scales (MPAS)-Ocean component. Success of the project has the potential to greatly accelerate scientific discovery in Earth System Science as well as contributing to the capabilities of Energy Exascale Earth System Model (E3SM).
