I am very happy to announce that Xiangcheng Zheng (Advisor: Hong Wang) has been selected as one of the 2020 – 2021 University of South Carolina Breakthrough Graduate Scholars by the Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR).  Dr. Zheng was awarded his Ph.D in December.  This is the third year in a row that Mathematics has a Breakthrough Graduate Scholar (the last two winners were Zhiyu Wang and Candace Bethea).  The formal announcement as well as details on the Breakthrough Graduate Scholar Award can be found on the VP for Research page.

 The solicitation for the award says that it "recognizes exceptional graduate students who demonstrate excellence in the classroom, and make considerable contributions to research and scholarly activities in their field." Each year, the VPR honors approximately one dozen exceptional graduate students across campus with this award.
