George McNulty Endowed Fellowship Fund

To commemorate the passing of Dr. George McNulty this past June, the University has created the George McNulty Endowed Fellowship Fund. The purpose of this Fund is to provide support for a fellowship in the Department of Mathematics with a preference for students who are pursuing a Ph.D. in Mathematics. If there are no Ph.D. - seeking students in the Mathematics Department, the fellowship may be given to a graduate student in mathematics.

George served as a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics, from 1975 to 2020 and as Department Chair from 1991 to 1994. Throughout his tenure at USC, he received many honors and awards including a Fullbright-Hays Professorship at the University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University, an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship at the Technische Hochschule in Darmstadt, Germany, and a number of grants from the National Science Foundation. George was named a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society in 2011. He had over 70 publications, the foremost of which are three volumes on Algebras, Lattices, Varieties, published by the American Mathematical Society, which he co-authored with Ralph Freese, Ralph McKenzie, and Walter Taylor.
