Biography
Dr. Ting Fung Ma is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistics at the University of South Carolina. He joined USC in 2022 after earning his Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He received his B.Sc. and M.Phil. in Statistics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and previously worked as a government statistician and human resources analyst.
Dr. Ma develops statistically principled and computationally scalable methods for large-scale data with complex dependence. His research focuses on approximate and scalable inference, spatial and spatiotemporal statistics, environmental statistics, and change-point analysis. He also pursues interdisciplinary work spanning ecology, public health, epidemiology, machine learning, and data science. His research has received support from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, NVIDIA, and USC’s ASPIRE program.
Dr. Ma is currently recruiting one USC undergraduate student for a paid research assistant position involving statistical programming, simulation, and data analysis.
