My School of Medicine Columbia

LCME Accreditation

In February of 2025, the South Carolina School of Medicine Columbia will undergo an accreditation site visit from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). Below is information regarding the LCME timeline, the self-study process, along with FAQ's regarding the accreditation process.

The LCME is the nationally recognized accrediting authority for medical education programs leading to the M.D. degree in the United States and Canada.  Accreditation is a process of quality assurance in postsecondary education that determines whether a program meets established standards for structure and performance.  It establishes students’ eligibility for selected federal grants and programs, as well their eligibility to take the United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLE).  Graduates of LCME-accredited schools are eligible for residency programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).  The school's last accreditation review occurred in 2017, after which it received a full 8-year accreditation.
