Dance

Recognized by Dance Magazine as one of the top non-conservatory programs to offer specialization in classical ballet, the University of SC Dance Program combines a rigorous dance classroom and studio environment with the extensive depth and breadth of a superior liberal arts education.

Working from a solid foundational core of dance coursework, students can earn undergraduate degrees in dance as well as develop advanced competencies in the areas of Performance and Choreography or Dance Education K-12 CertificationOur experienced studio faculty strives to instill a sound foundation of guided practice in the disciplines and principles of classical ballet, contemporary dance and jazz. The program has a long established specialty in ballet infused with the energy of cutting-edge contemporary dance.

Study

The dance program, which has established a notable legacy of excellence, attracts highly motivated students from across the country and abroad. Our students are committed to rigorous development of their natural abilities through a combination of study and practice, leading to a life enriched by the art of dance.

Audition

Open house auditions usually occur in November and February of each academic year. Auditions, which are scheduled around a weekend, provide prospective students with a first-hand experience of the program as well as the opportunity to interact with current majors. Dance scholarship auditions also are held during open house auditions.

Perform

The USC Dance Company presents an annual season of performances. Each one presents Columbia audiences with works that inspire, entertain and achieve ever greater heights of artistic excellence. From traditional and avant garde choreography to timeless classical treasures, our season showcases the artistry and artists of our program.
