The University is piloting a flexible work schedule that will maintain regular hours of operation on all campuses while providing relief to employees from rising fuel costs.
The pilot program will run from July 7 through August 15.
Employees must receive written approval before beginning a flexible work schedule. A Flexible Work Schedule Request Form should be completed and submitted to the employee's department head or director, who must make a recommendation to their dean or vice president for final approval.
Each request to participate must be considered on the basis of whether the work to be performed can be accomplished in a flexible work arrangement. The business needs of the department or the job requirements of some positions may limit or prohibit participation. A decision to deny participation may not be appealed and approval of a flexible work schedule may be rescinded or altered if necessary.
Options for a flexible work schedule include:
- Working a four-day week. Employees approved for a four-day week must work the same number of hours in a four-day week that they would work in a five-day week.
- Working from home or from an alternate work site if the requirements of the job can be met.
- Working a flexible schedule during a five-day workweek, such as working 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. or 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Flexible Work Schedule Request Form and Guidelines are available on the Human Resources Web site at http://hr.sc.edu/flexschedule.html.
