Hiring International Candidates

Immigration Services is responsible for non-U.S. citizen faculty, research staff, affiliates, and sponsored visitors at USC. Welcoming faculty, researchers and visitors from around the world contributes to the university's academic and institutional excellence.

New Hires

We do not advise departments about hiring candidates. Offers should be made to the most qualifed candidates.

ISSS is not involved in the HCM/PeopleSoft workflow or the I-9 process.

If your unit's search for any role results in an international finalist, please submit a Consultation Request so we can discuss with the candidate their sponsorship options and answer any questions they may have.

We will ask new hires for their Personal Documents to support visa/immigration sponsorship.

Tenure-track faculty are sponsored for permanent residency, often simultaneously with a non-immigrant visa, H-1B.

Professional-track faculty and staff might be eligible for H-1B visa sponsorship at USC. Eligibility is determined by ISSS.

Contact ISSS when you are ready to hire/appoint a new post doctoral fellow. We need to evaluate their immigration history, status, and eligibility.

They may be eligible for the Exchange Visitor Program.

During proposal budget preparation, contact Katie Davison (HR-Class/Comp) for review of approved position classifications/salary ranges and immigration@sc.edu for USDOL prevailing wage data applicable to the discipline and physical work sites. Note grant-funded hiring process timeline
