Student Organizations

There are many groups on campus that can help you advance the causes you care about, build new relationships and improve your professional skills. 

Multicultural Student Organizations

There are dozens of mstudent organizations at UofSC that are focused on all aspects of identity including race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation and religion. For more details, check out Garnet Gate and search by term.

 

OMSA Leadership Council

The OMSA Leadership Council is a group of identity-based organizations that come together monthly to discuss multicultural issues across campus. The following organizations currently sit on the OMSA Leadership Council. If you would like your organization to sit on the Council, please contact OMSA.

Association of African American Students (AAAS)

AAAS works to provide a safe space and positive cultural, intellectual and social environment for all students. Meetings focus on various social and political concerns of the African American community. 

Black Honors Caucus

The purpose of the Black Honors Caucus is to service high achieving Black students and give them a safe space to convene and share ideas unapologetically and without fear. 

Black Medical Student Association (BMSA)

BMSA is an undergraduate organization that focuses on promoting health and cultural awareness, providing resources that will increase the retention, matriculation, and graduation rates of pre-medical health and science minority students.

Brothers of Nubian Descent (BOND)

BOND is an organization open to all men of color, that promotes unity and retention with the goal of enhancing the black male experience on campus. 

Collegiate Curls

The purpose of Collegiate Curls is to uplift, empower, and support multicultural students as they embrace their natural beauty through healthy hair and skin care practices. 

Filipino American Student Association (FASA)

FASA aims to spread awareness about the loving Filipino culture and teach about its traditions, raise funds to help our local community, and strives to promote international unity among the UofSC and Columbia community.

Individuals Respecting Identities and Sexualities (IRIS)

IRIS is a social, service, and advocacy organization for the LGBTQ+ communities at the University of South Carolina.

Latin American Student Organization (LASO)

LASO is a student-led group that enables aspiring leaders of all academic interests, regardless of race/ethnicity/background, from across the university to make a difference at the University of South Carolina and within the community. 

Multicultural Greek Council (MGC)

MGC is the governing council for the six culturally-based Greek-lettered fraternities and sororities at South Carolina. 

National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ)

NABJ's mission is to establish a strong union among black students pursuing degrees in journalism, broadcasting, visual communications, public relations, mass communications and other majors interested in getting an insight into the media world.

National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC)

The National Pan-Hellenic Council is the coordinating council for the nine historically African American fraternities and sororities, eight of which are at South Carolina. 

Pan-African Student Association (PANASA)

 PANASA is a social and multicultural organization of Africans and friends of Africa, with members from African countries, America and international students from other continents. 

SAVVY, Multicultural Women's Group

A multicultural discussion-based organization that focuses on empowerment of women in all aspects.

Student Government Inclusion and Equity Committee

Student Government works closely with university administration, faculty and staff to represent the interests of students, preserve and protect the traditions @UofSC, and support students and student organizations in their academic and community endeavors.

Trans Student Alliance (TSA)

TSA is a collective of trans students and cisgender allies working together to advocate and educate on trans issues at the University of South Carolina and to provide a safe space for transgender members of the Carolina community.
