The University of South Carolina Salkehatchie, in partnership with the College of Information and Communications, is offering two free artificial intelligence (AI) workshops this February in the iCarolina Lab on the Allendale campus. These sessions are designed for adult learners, including small business owners, job seekers, and those with limited technical experience. Participants who attend both sessions will receive a certificate of completion.
AI-4-SC | Session 1: "Generative AI for Beginners"
This 90-minute interactive seminar, led by AI educator and technology innovator Glen Caruso, will demystify AI and provide hands-on experience with generative AI tools. Participants will learn the basics of AI, see live demos of time-saving applications, and practice using ChatGPT for various tasks, including resume building.

Glen Caruso brings over 20 years of experience from Microsoft, Oracle, and Adobe, where he helped global brands leverage AI. As a former instructor at the University of Georgia’s Grady College, he is passionate about making AI practical and accessible.
AI-4-SC | Session 2: "Utilizing AI in Your Business"
Led by Marcia Purday, APR, this 90-minute session will equip small business owners and nonprofit leaders with the skills to use generative AI tools to address common challenges in operations, marketing, customer engagement, and administration. Participants will learn to identify AI solutions, craft effective prompts, automate tasks, and create actionable strategies for AI integration.

Marcia Purday is a seasoned public relations and advertising professional with expertise spanning Fortune 100 companies, nonprofits, higher education, and government organizations. She also instructs at USC’s School of Journalism and Mass Communications, specializing in the ethical use of generative AI.
