Hanne van der Iest’s educational background is in both Sociology and Anthropology. Her research interests center primarily on cooperation and its evolution in communities and networks, social network methodology, and the spread of attitudes and behaviors through networks over time. Ms. van der Iest has received a dissertation research improvement grant from the National Science Foundation and the Wenner-Gren Foundation and has published research on the effects of third party externalities on behavior in social dilemmas. She has taught courses on the evolution of social behavior, introduction to sociology, and public speaking.
