Pro Bono Program to offer free tax assistance for low-income and elderly communities

For the 27th year volunteer law students with South Carolina Law's Pro Bono Program will provide tax assistance to low income and elderly communities in South Carolina.

Tax return preparation will be conducted in the café at the law school on Wednesdays from 5:30-8 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. - 12 noon, starting on February 16 and ending on March 30.  The cafe is located on the first floor of the School of Law at 1525 Senate Street.

The volunteers will prepare and e-file simple SC and Federal returns. No business, self-employment or foreign student returns, or complicated forms can be completed at this site. Participants must present a valid photo ID, a Social Security Card for the filer AND any dependents, as well as all related tax documents.

No appointments are necessary; those seeking assistance will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be a limited number of returns prepared at each session.

For individuals who require assistance with the preparation of a previous year's return or for information about other Volunteer Income Tax Assistance sites and times, contact The Cooperative Ministries at (803) 799-3853.
