Residency and Citizenship
At the University of South Carolina, residency and citizenship are related but each
has its own processes and requirements. The Office of the University Registrar can explain how both may impact you.
Your residency determines your status as an in-state or out-of-state student and may
impact your tuition and scholarship eligibility. Citizenship defines a student's status
as either a citizen of the United States or a citizen of another country.
Due to unexpected delays with colleges and universities receiving FAFSA data nationally,
the availability of the Fall 2024 Residency Certification form will also be delayed.
The FAFSA is an integral part of the citizenship and residency verification process.
The date of availability has not yet been determined. Please check back to this page
late March 2024 for any updates.
