| Eastern Redbud is an important understory species, commonly found as small trees below the taller, or canopy species such as oaks, maple, basswood and hickories. Redbud is most common in forests on fertile, well-watered sites, frequently in places over limestone rock. This tree blooms well before its leaves have appeared and the flowers are curiously produced in abundant clusters with very short stalks. Thus the flowers appear on the stems themselves, just above the bark. Native from New Jersey to Texas. Fall color - golden yellow. |
