| Native from New Jersey to Florida, eastern Texas and Oklahoma. Loblolly
pine is one of the most widespread and economically important native
tree species of the Southeast. It is frequently associated with
old fields and may commonly be seen re-seeding into abandoned fields
or into recently clear-cut woodlands. It is important as a timber
tree and is widely used for pulp and paper production. Its wood
is not as valuable for lumber as the Longleaf pine and Shortleaf pine. The
needles of the Loblolly pine are nearly always in three's and flexible. The
bark is gray-brown, flaking off in patches. |
