| This is a tree of hybrid origin, whose parentage includes Shadbush or Servicetree. The native Serviceberry is widespread in eastern North America and is one of the first flowering trees to bloom in the year. The leaves appear after the trees have bloomed. This particular cultivar is highly prized as a shade tree. Its leaves turn brilliant red in the fall and its fruits are edible and attractive to wildlife. Its bark is an attractive gray and is very beautiful in the winter. It is very pleasing in a naturalistic planting and blends in well on the edges of woodlands near ponds and stream banks. |
