| The Yellowwood is native to southeastern USA, from NC and SC west to Arkansas and Oklahoma. It gets its name from the bright yellow wood just under the bark, which was used at one time for a yellow dye. This is a fairly uncommon native tree which is becoming valuable as a shade or street tree in many parts of the Southeast. The medium size and spreading habit make it a choice tree for smaller properties. It generally occurs in rich well-drained, limestone soils in river valleys, slopes and ridges along streams. Fall color - lemon yellow. |
