Carolina Trustee Professorship and Recipients
Nomination Process
Nominations may be submitted by students, faculty, department chairs, and
deans at all USC campuses.
Required Materials for Nominee's file:
- Nomination form (PDF)
- Curriculum vitae
- Short narrative summary of the nominee's teaching performance, during the past three years
- Research accomplishments, during the past three years
- Public service activities during the past three years
- Letter of recommendation from the nominee's immediate academic supervisor
- Two-page statement from the nominee.
Submission Deadline:
Nominee's files are due to the Office of the Provost by February 1, 2013.
The Selection Committee will recommend a recipient to the Academic Affairs and
Faculty Liaison Committee of the Board for approval and recommendation to the
full Board. The winner will be announced at the Spring Faculty Awards Ceremony
and spring commencement dinner.

Information about the Award
Three Carolina Trustee Professorship Awards
are presented annually in the amount of $2,000
each and given by the members of the Board of
Trustees. Two awards are presented to Columbia
campus professors and one to a professor at one
of the other USC campuses. Faculty eligible for
the Professorships are those who hold the rank
of tenured full professor and demonstrate a
record of teaching excellence as well as a
record of outstanding performance in research
and in public service activities. Excellence in
teaching may be demonstrated in any phase of the
University's educational mission and in any
setting, from the undergraduate classroom to the
graduate seminar, in laboratories, clinical
practice, independent study, or supervised
research.
The Office of the Provost shall make the
solicitation of nominees. The nomination shall
include a vita, a short narrative summary of the
nominee's teaching performance, research
accomplishments, and public service activities
during the past three years, a letter of
recommendation from the nominee's academic
supervisor and a two-page statement from the
nominee.
The committee is composed of the Chairman of
the Board, the Chairman of the Academic Affairs
and Faculty Liaison Committee of the Board, a
representative of the President, the Provost,
the Secretary of the Board and the Chairman of
the Faculty Senate (who shall be ineligible to
receive the award while serving in that post).
The committee will recommend a recipient to the
Academic Affairs and Faculty Liaison Committee
of the Board for approval and recommendation to
the full Board.
The Professorships are presented at the
spring commencement dinner. Recipients of the
award will be ineligible to receive the Carolina
Trustee Professorship for five calendar years
after last receiving the award.
