The University of South Carolina is rated as a top-tier research university by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education, which means there are a lot of opportunities to conduct research in a variety of areas. All of our graduate students are expected to conduct research while they pursue their degree. The SEOE houses a diverse group of faculty whose research and teaching encompasses Geology & Geophysics, Marine Sciences, and Environment & Sustainability. The school houses state-of-the-art research facilities for the use of its students, faculty, and the broader scientific community. We encourage you to explore our research areas and contact professors who are doing research in areas that interest you.
Because we're a school within a top-tier research university, our undergraduates also have to opportunity to participate in research. We recommend exploring your options as an undergraduate, as participating in research is a great way to apply what you're learning and can help you when the time comes to compete for jobs or admission to graduate programs.
