Nobel Prize winner to speak on campus Oct. 28

The winner of the 1977 Nobel Prize in physics will speak at a colloquium on the Columbia campus Oct. 28.

Philip W. Anderson, now the Joseph Henry Professor of Physics at Princeton University, will give a talk on “Theory of Superconductivity” at 4 p.m. in the Jones Physical Sciences Center. A reception will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. in the USC NanoCenter Lobby.

The event—which is free and open to the public—is co-sponsored by the USC NanoCenter and the USC Department of Physics and Astronomy.

In addition to the Nobel Prize, Anderson has received the Buckley Prize in 1964 and the Institute of Physics’ Guthrie Medal in 1978. He has been named a fellow to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the National Academy of Science, the Japan Academy of Sciences, and the American Philosophical Society. He also is a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Science, the Royal Society (London), and the Indian National Academy.
