Carolina Food Co.

Community Involvement

We are mindful that 40 percent of the American food supply is wasted while 41 million Americans struggle with hunger. Our mission to serve goes beyond the walls of our dining halls to the people who need it most. We’re here to enrich and nourish lives throughout campus and the Columbia community.

Food Recovery Network

We have an ongoing partnership with the Food Recovery Network, a student organization on campus. Students collect excess food from campus dining halls, restaurants and catering events and donate it to Transitions Homeless Center and Gamecock Pantry.

Swipe Out Hunger

Every semester we donate 60 plans with 16 meal each. Student Government allocates them to university students struggling with food insecurity.

President's Council on Sustainability

Our Sustainability Manager sits on the university's President's Council on Sustainability, which engages campus stakeholders in the work and discussion of making the university a national model of sustainable practices embodying the triple bottom line of Environmental Resilience, Economic Prosperity, and Social Justice.

Food Systems Strategy Committee

Carolina Food Co. and Healthy Carolina co-founded the Food Systems Strategy Committee to address healthy and sustainable food policies on campus as well as food access issues.
