Ajman University

Area: International Business Exchange
Location: Ajman
Country: United Arab Emirates
Term: Spring

The UofSC exchange program at Ajman University is designed to expose students to Arab life and culture and international business practices. The program is located in the city of Ajman, the seat of the emirate of Ajman, located along the Persian gulf. The city forms a continuous urban coast with Sharjah and Dubai. UAE is one of the more secure countries of the world and experiences cooler weather from October to April. Exchange students will have the opportunity to network with the giants of the business world. During the course of their stay, Ajman will organize related industry visits for exchange students and assist in exploring UAE job markets. Students have complimentary access to all facilities on campus, including the Student Hub, wi-fi, clinic, library, gym, pool, play grounds, theater, etc. Although students can expect to be in a diverse, multicultural and modern educational setting, they should be prepared to deal with a more conservative social environment in a culturally-sensitive and appropriate manner. UofSC students can expect to be educated on these important cultural differences at the orientation provided by Ajman prior to the start of the semester.

Category: 1, no foreign language proficiency requirement, all courses taught in English

Cost: UofSC resident tuition rates + in-country costs

Requirements: junior standing; International Business major

Students on exchange pay in-state tuition directly to USC and do not pay tuition to Ajman. All housing, food, and personal expenses are paid by the student in Ajman. Ajman suggests that students budget approximately AED 1,500 per month for meals and accomodation fees vary depending on accomodation type. To get an idea of life on site, you will find on the numbeo website indications on the cost of living in United Arab Emirates compared to other countries in the world.

Students will be enrolling in courses through the College of Business Administration, as well as several general courses (including Academic Writing, The Art of Public Speaking, and English Communication Skills). Students are able to take any course for which they meet the prerequisites, given available space. To see courses UofSC students have taken at this university, please reference the Registrar's Course Equivalency Table

Ajman organizes 4 leisure trips to amusement parks, desert safaris, water parks, etc for a nominal fee. They also provide complimentary transportation for weekly visits to hypermarkets and grocery stores. There is a Dinner with the Chancellor organized for all exchange students, as well as a Closing Ceremony hosted by the Office of International Academic Affairs.

Per university policy, all UofSC students will be charged emergency medical, evacuation and repatriation insurance for their time abroad. Contact the Education Abroad Office for more details.

Accommodation can be arranged by Ajman at highly discounted rates. Several meal options are available on campus and within 300m around campus. Many home delivery options are also available.

The Ajman academic calendar has two semesters, fall and spring. The fall semester starts in August and exams finish in December. The spring semester starts in January and exams finish in May. IB students will attend Ajman for the spring semester.

Ajman organizes an Orientation Week prior to the start of the semester. This includes leisure activities, cultural trips, and Arabian food.

Exchange students who are US citizens are required to apply for a visa in order to enter the UAE. Ajman will assist exchange students in obtaining their visa and study permit at no additional fee. The visa itself does have a cost, which is approximately $500 USD.
