St Etienne also enjoys a dynamic economy (20,000 businesses, the second-highest concentration of SMEs and SMIs after the Paris region, leading hubs in Design Textile, Medical and Digital Technologies). Its sports facilities and student-oriented environment (12 higher education establishments), together with a rental sector which is one of the most affordable amongst French cities, make it a great place to live and study.

St Etienne is one of the more affordable cities in France. Students can expect to spend approximately 400€ per month for accommodation. The total cost of living will vary based on your lifestyle. Students should budget accordingly, and realize that all costs are estimates and may fluctuate based on the exchange rate. Student heading to Europe are typically recommended to budget 500-1000€ per month in expenses outside of housing.

Students at EM-Lyon have the opportunity for individual travel. Exchange students also have a plethora of student clubs and organizations to join, as well as professional sector associations.

Students may apply for off campus accommodations. Students should start looking for housing once they receive their placement. 

The spring semester typically starts in early January and ends in late April.

Specific welcome arrangements are offered to exchange students at EmLyon.

Students who attend EmLyon for a semester are required to register with Campus France and must apply in person at a Global VFS office.
