USC's exchange program in located in the port city of Liverpool, England is designed to help American students gain first hand knowledge of British culture. Liverpool is two hours north west of London and 45 minutes southeast of Manchester by train. Liverpool, one of England's largest cities and home to many of the UK's cultural figures, has a long history of industry and arts. So much so that Liverpool is a designated UNESCO City of Music, thanks to its "Merseybeat" sounds that are often synonymous with the sounds of the Beatles. Situated on the Northwest port of England, the University of Liverpool is a great option for students who are looking for international travel and regional travel around the U.K. thanks to the international airports and train stations nearby. 

Students will attend the University of Liverpool, which was founded in 1881. University of Liverpool is home to 27,000 students and it's managment school is among an elite group as it holds a triple crown accreditation from AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS. Alongside business, students can study subjects ranging from the Humanities and Social Sciences, Health and Life Sciences, and Science and Engineering.

Students on an exchange program will pay tuition and fees directly to USC. Housing, books, meals, and personal expenses will be paid in Liverpool. Although the U.K. is a more expensive place to live due to the weak exchange rate between the USD and the GBP, however Liverpool prides itself on being one of the most affordable cities in the U.K. 

The program at the University of Liverpool offers a full curriculum. Students take classes with British and other international students. Classes are taught in English. It is suggested that students choose modules from a maximum of two departments, preferably from the same School and year to avoid timetable clashes. Students typically take 60 UK credits and earn 15 US credit hours per semester.

The University of Liverpool Global Opportunties office arranges local excursions for students, including a Music and Film tour, and day trips to cities around the area. Students do have the opportunity for individual travel. Regional travel to London, Manchester and northern England are all within a days travel. Liverpool also serves as a hub for international travel to mainland Europe, the rest of the UK and Ireland. Students do have the opportunity to get involved in sports organizations on campus and attend events offered through the university. 

Per university policy, all USC students will be charged for  emergency medical, evacuation and repatriation insurance of  for their time abroad. Students will be enrolled in this insurance by the education abroad office prior to their departure. Contact the Education Abroad Office for more details. 

Students can choose to live in residence halls with other students. Housing costs, which may or may not include board depending on the housing option chosen, are paid to the University of Liverpool. Students studying for a spring term have a high chance of receiving housing on campus, whereas those studying at the University of Liverpool for the academic year are gaurenteed housing. Fall students should apply for accommodation early to secure placement. 

Students can study at the University of Liverpool for a semester or academic year. Classes begin at the end of September and end in mid-late January* for the fall semester. In the spring, classes begin in the end of  January and can go through late May, depending on the classes the student is enrolled in. Please note that both spring and summer terms are the equivalent to USC's Spring semester. 

 

*students participating in the fall semester only must note that although classes end in December, final exams take place in early-mid January. University of Liverpool does allow for students to take those examinations in the US. For more details, please contact the education abroad office. 

Students will attend orientation upon arrival to Liverpool. At orientation students will tour the campus, learn about the support networks that are available to them and finalize their course registration. 

 Students who attend the University of Liverpool for one semester (less than 6 months) do not need to apply for a visa in advance. You will receive a Student Visitor visa at the airport. Students studying for the full academic year will need to apply for the PBS Tier Four General Student visa. Please contact the Education Abroad Office if you have questions.
