The UofSC exchange program at LMU Munich is designed to give students the opportunity to study at one of the leading universities in Germany. The campus is spread throughout the city of Munich and has 18 faculty overseeing various departments and institutes.
Munich is the capital of the German state of Bavaria, a major center of art, technology, finance, culture, and business in Europe. The university is the second largest university in the country. LMU Munich has a 500 year tradition and is constantly among Germany's "elite universities". The university is served by the Munich subway's Universitat station.

Students on an exchange program will pay tuition and fees directly to USC. Housing, books, meals, and personal expenses will be paid at LMU Munich. On-campus housing costs average €330 per month. Additionally, students can expect to pay between €300-400 per semester for insurance, meals, phone, and public transportation. Entertainment and travel costs will vary by student. These numbers are estimates and may change over time.
LMU Munich uses the ECTS credit system, where 2 ECTS equal 1 US credit hour. On average, you should expect to take about 30 ECTS per semester. Course offerings are available online about two months before the start of the semester. Once admitted, students will receive comprehensive information about course registration.

Exchange students at LMU Munich have multiple opportunities to get involved. There are a number of humanitarian, international, religious, and career-oriented student organizations. Students can also get involved with The Student Union, a formal association for undergraduate local and international students with a variety of sports organizations, cultural events, and more.
Per university policy, all UofSC students will be charged emergency medical, evacuation and repatriation insurance for their time abroad. Contact the Education Abroad Office for more details.
The Munich Student Union offers limited university housing in furnished rooms for an average of €300 per month. You will generally be accommodated in a single room with shared kitchen and sometimes shared bathroom facilities. A limited number of all-inclusive apartments are available. LMU also can provide you with resources for finding private housing.
USC IB students will study at LMU during the summer session which is equivalenty to the spring semester at USC. The summer semester is from mid-April to mid-July.
LMU offers both a Welcome Day and an Orientation where exchange students get to know each other, take campus and city tours, learn about the practical matters of an exchange semester, and attend workshops based on their interests and goals.
Students going to Germany for a single semester are not required to obtain a student visa prior to arrival. However, students must apply for a residence permit after arriving in Munich and before your entry visa expires after the first 90 days. Students will go to the Munich Foreigners Office to obtain residence permit. Once you are accepted to LMU Munich, you will receive more information regarding this process.
