Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (UCSC) has several campuses. The main campus is located in the heart of Milan. Most of the buildings, colleges, and campus facilities are located in St. Ambrose district, within the city centre of Milan. Milan is currently recognized as one of the world's four fashion captials. Students are able to learn at a prestigeous and recognized university while experiencing all of the culture and life that Milan has to offer.
Students have the option to take part in the International Curriculum through UCSC or the Academic Curriculum through UCSC. Although the Academic Curriculum offers more subjects in English, the program dates differ greatly from that of USC, compared to the International Curriculum. Moreover, there may be limited seats for English taught courses in the Academic Curriculum and students must have a B2 level of Italian knowledge to partake in the Italian taught classes (this requires a minimum of two 300-level courses). The International Curriculum was designed by the International Office at UCSC with international students in mind, allowing all courses to come back as 3 USC credits and for students to have a rich experience abroad. Students must pick if they would like to take part in the International or Academic program, curricula cannot be mixed.
Cost: All tuition and fees are paid directly to the host institution.
Requirements: 3.0 GPA, completion of 2 or more semesters of undergraduate coursework.
Tuition and fees are paid directly to UCSC. Tuition is due to UCSC upon completion of the UCSC application, which is April for a fall program, and November for a spring program. In addition to tuition and fees, students should plan to budget approximately €3,000 -€4,000 per semester for accomodations and €550 per month for meals and personal expenses. However, the amount you spend on daily necessities can vary greatly according to individual preference and lifestyle. UCSC offers a wide variety of courses surrounding Italin language and culture. Students take between 24-30 ECTS hours at UCSC which is equivalent to 12-15 hours of credit at USC. To see courses USC students have taken at this university, please reference the Registrar's Course Equivalency Table.
Students have the ability for personal travel and sight seeing inside of the city. Additionally, UCSC offers a vast amount of on-campus programming including a buddy network that is helpful for students who are wanting to make connections with locals before the depart and sport facilities.
Per university policy, all USC students will be charged for emergency medical, evacuation and repatriation insurance of for their time abroad. Students will be enrolled in this insurance by the education abroad office prior to their departure. This charge will appear on the USC bill the semester(s) in which the student is abroad. Students will need to arrange their own housing in Milan. UCSC has limited on-campus housing and offers a list of preferred housing partners that they recommend.
The academic calendar at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore for the international curriculum is similar to the one at USC. The fall term begins in late August and ends in December, while the spring term begins in February and ends in late May.
The acadmemic curriculm through UCSC varies greatly by department. Students are responsible for determining the dates of their specific program. Generally, the fall semester through the Academic Curriculum is early September through Janurary/February, while the spring semester through the Academic Curriculum can run from February through July.
UCSC hosts a three day orientation prior to the start of the semester. UCSC offers 2 orientation sessions to accomodate all student schedules and preferences.
Semester and academic-year students will need a Student Visa to study in Italy. Visa applications and submission requirements may vary based on the Italian Consulate/Embassy you go through. Students will need to use the embassy/consulate within their home juristdiction. Students are typically required to appear in person at their consulate/embassy to drop off and/or pick up any visa materials. The closest Italian Consulate for USC students is Miami, Florida.
