The United Kingdom is an expensive place to study abroad due to the weak exchange rate between the dollar and pound. Due to this fact, students need to budget accordingly and be aware that prices will be much higher while in the UK.

Students typically take 60 Strathclyde credits (30 ECTS credits) per semester and typically earn 15 U.S. credit hours. Listed below are a few examples of subjects offered. Students should expect lectures in class sizes ranging from 20-150 students, combined with interactive seminars, workshops and tutorials and smaller in-depth discussion groups.

Strathclyde's International Student Advisor organizes social and cultural activities throughout the semester, including a weekend trip to Carbisdale Castle in the highlands of Scotland. Strathclyde's Student Association also organizes activities and events to support students. Students also have the opportunity for individual travel.

Per university policy, all USC students will be charged for  emergency medical, evacuation and repatriation insurance of  for their time abroad. Students will be enrolled in this insurance by the education abroad office prior to their departure. Contact the Education Abroad Office for more details.

While housing on campus is not guaranteed, students can apply for University accommodation that is within minutes walking distance of all the main University buildings. For students who prefer to live off campus, the Accommodation Office staff at Strathclyde is available to provide assistance with finding a suitable flat. Students pay in-state tuition and fees to UofSC. Room and board costs are paid in Glasgow and vary based on the type of accommodation chosen.

Classes begin in January and go until June for the Spring semester. Academic year students can expect to arrive in September and finish in late May.

The University of Strathclyde offers a welcome program for new international students during the first few days after arrival. Information on the local area, the university and other important details will be provided during this time.

U.S. citizens who attend the University of Strathclyde for one semester (less than 6 months) do not need to apply for a visa in advance. You will receive a Student Visitor visa at the airport. Students studying for the full academic year will need to apply for the PBS Tier Four General Student visa. Please contact the Education Abroad Office if you have questions.
