UofSC's International Business exchange program in Mexico is designed to help students build business competence in a Mexican environment and gain firsthand knowledge of Mexican culture. International Business students will attend the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores Monterrey, also known as Monterrey Tec, Campus Guadalajara. Guadalajara, often described as a city where traditional meets modern, is regarded as one of the best places to experience authentic Mexican culture.

Mexico is on the University Travel Warning List. Students interested in going on this exchange program will need to complete the Higher Risk Travel process.

Mexico is one of the more cost effective countries for study abroad due to the strong dollar against the peso. Students will pay in-state tuition to UofSC. Monterrey Tec recommends that students budget $800 per month for living expenses, including housing, utilities, meals, and transportation.  To get an idea of ​​life on site, you will find on the numbeo website indications on the cost of living in Mexico compared to other countries in the world.

The full load for a regular student is 48 ITESM units. 8 ITESM units = 3 U.S. credits. Courses taught in English are available, though students who speak Spanish can also take courses taught in Spanish. To do so, students must pass a Spanish language evaluation provided by Monterrey Tec. For an additional fee, in the past, the program has organized excursions to other cities within Mexico for all international students. Recent excursions have included trips to Mexico City, Cuernavaca, Guanajuato, Morelia, Oaxaca and Puebla. The international office in Guadalajara can advise students on student friendly destinations and on safe travel within Mexico.

Per university policy, all UofSC students will be charged emergency medical, evacuation and repatriation insurance for their time abroad. Contact the Education Abroad Office for more details. Monterrey Tec mandates that all international students purchase its own insurance policy as well. The fee is approximately $390 per semester, but is subject to change.  UofSC students are required to have both UofSC's and Monterrey Tec's insurance policies.

Monterrey Tec Guadalajara offers housing options in a residence hall and with a host family. Students should apply for housing as soon as possible. Housing placements are offered on a first come, first served basis.  

The Spring semester begins in Early-February and runs through mid-June. The Fall semester beings in Late-July and runs through Early-December. IB students will attend Monterrey Tec during the Spring semester.

Students will receive the orientation schedule upon arrival in Mexico. Orientation covers health and safety, Mexican culture, and how to safely travel around the country. During orientation students will take a tour of the campus and the city as well as finalize their course registration.

The Mexican Consulate of Atlanta recommends that U.S. citizens obtain a student visa for a semester-long program. More information is available here. Please note you will need to appear in person at a Mexican Consulate. The consulate nearest to UofSC is in Atlanta.
