Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week

Students participate in Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week events designed to raise awareness and serve the community. 

The Great Food Race

All units, departments and organizations on campus are invited to participate in the inaugural Great Food Race, a food drive for Gamecock Pantry.

The event will be held Monday, November 15 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Davis Field near Longstreet Theater. 

HOW IT WORKS:

Each unit must designate a team captain, who will register below. The captain will coordinate with their students, faculty, staff and alumni to collect advance food donations. Please tally and drop off the food donations at the Greene Street event on November 15. You can register for The Great Food Race by selecting this link

PRIZES:

Prizes will be given following the Great Food Race for:

  • Most donations
  • Best food costume

Keynote Speech 

The Gamecock Pantry and the Leadership and Service Center are proud to host Erinn Rowe, who serves as Harvest Hope Food Bank's Chief Executive Officer. Rowe will speak to students, staff, and faculty about issues surrounding food insecurity and steps the Carolina community can collectively take to address food insecurity. This event will be held on Tuesday, November 16 at 6 p.m. in room 303 of the Russell House Union. 

Food Insecurity Alleviation Trainings 

Food Insecurity Alleviation Trainings are designed to increase awareness of food insecurity among college students, boost confidence in how to identify and respond to student food insecurity, and help identify both on and off campus resources available to students for food insecurity relief.
