Counting Down to Discover USC 2019

The Discover USC 2019 countdown is on. Event organizers are excited to open the registration period for presenters, volunteers, reviewers and organizations planning to host outreach tables, and to share some new details for the 2019 event.

We invite all undergraduate and graduate students, medical scholars and postdocs from all USC campuses and Prisma Health to present their research and scholarly work at Discover USC on April 26, 2019. Faculty, staff and students are also encouraged to join in by serving as volunteers and reviewers or hosting an outreach table.

Registration Deadlines

Registration for Discover USC 2019 is now open. There are different registration deadlines for presenters, volunteers and reviewers, etc., so be sure to plan accordingly.

Participant Type

Registration Deadline

All Presenters Friday, March 8, 2019 (the Friday before spring break)
Organizations planning to host an outreach table Friday, March 29, 2019
Reviewers Friday, April 5, 2019
Volunteers Friday, April 5, 2019

Notes for Presenters

New for 2019:

  • At Discover USC 2019, for the first time, Pharm.D. students (all years of study) will present with the medical scholars group, instead of the undergraduate presenters group.
  • When presenters register a presentation online, all presenters and project mentor(s) will receive a confirmation email noting that the registration has been received and listing pertinent details.
Undergraduate Students

Most undergraduate students will present a poster. There are a small number of slots available for undergraduates to give a display presentation or an oral presentation. Undergraduate students may request a display or oral presentation when they register, but because of the very limited availability, not all requests can be approved.

Graduate Students

Graduate students may present a poster or request a three-minute thesis presentation. Due to limited availability, some graduate students who request a three-minute thesis presentation may be asked to give a poster presentation instead.

Postdocs and Medical Scholars

All postdoctoral and medical scholars will present posters at Discover USC 2019. Pharm.D. students (all years of study) should register to present with the medical scholars group at Discover USC 2019.

Notes for Reviewers, Volunteers and Outreach Table Hosts

Reviewers, volunteers and outreach table hosts make Discover USC a vital, bustling and effective event. We encourage faculty, staff and students to join us in one of these important roles on Friday, April 26, 2019. Lunch is provided for volunteers, reviewers and outreach table hosts, and all are welcome to check out the presentations and keynote address.

Notes for Reviewers

All USC faculty, staff, postdocs and graduate students are encouraged to register to serve as a presentation reviewer at Discover USC 2019. Reviewers are very important to making Discover USC a valuable scholarly and professional development opportunity for presenters at every level of study. With more than 1,000 presentations expected from virtually every discipline, we will need reviewers with a wide variety of expertise, skills and experience.

Notes for Volunteers

All faculty, staff and students are welcome to volunteer for an hour or two, or the whole day. There are many volunteer roles, from staffing information desks to handing out stickers to help organizers get a head-count of attendees, so whatever your interest, there’s likely a volunteer role that will fit.

Notes on Outreach Tables

Discover USC provides a unique opportunity for sharing information with the university community. We invite faculty/staff-supported campus organizations that promote scholarship, research, creativity and/or leadership within the USC and Prisma Health communities to host a table at Discover USC 2019.
