Dr. Kajal Ghoshroy receives John J. Duffy Excellence in Teaching Award

Kajal Ghoshroy Dr. Kajal Ghoshroy, associate professor of biology at USC Sumter, is the recipient of the Dr. John J. Duffy Excellence in Teaching Award; the Duffy teaching award is presented annually to a faculty member who exemplifies excellence in and out of the classroom.

Dr. Ghoshroy currently serves as the chairwoman of the Systems Affairs Committee on the Palmetto College Campuses Faculty Senate (2014-2017), and has worked at USC Sumter since 2007. She also served as curator of natural history at McKissick Museum from 2010 to 2015.

Ghoshroy received an M.S. in Biology from Illinois State University, an M.S. in Botany from the University of Calcutta and earned a Ph.D. in Plant Biology from the University of New Hampshire. She is a member of the Microscopy Society of America and the Botanical Society of America. The Duffy teaching award committee noted that Ghoshroy demonstrated innovative approaches for classroom delivery engagement and professional growth by providing peer education, logical and critical thinking and hands-on active learning. Ghoshroy was selected among a list of six finalists.
