New Associates Join the Incubator

The Incubator for Teaching Innovation grows in its second year

The College of Arts and Sciences welcomes the four faculty members joining the team of associates within the Incubator for Teaching Innovation at the University of South Carolina. Established in spring 2018, the Incubator is a faculty-led initiative that fosters a positive, contemporary culture of teaching by supporting and recognizing excellent teachers, hosting special events and providing resources on campus for learning about the best in modern teaching research and practices.

The 2018 associates are:

  • Lana Burgess, clinical associate professor at the McKissick Museum
  • Minuette Floyd, professor of art education at the School of Visual Art and Design
  • Hayden Smith, associate professor of criminology and criminal justice
  • Sean Yee, assistant professor with a joint appointment in mathematics and teacher education

The Innovative Teaching Associates serve as the Incubator’s core leadership team. The associates program provides an opportunity for selected faculty to receive support for their projects, participate in an interdisciplinary community of peers focused on teaching, develop Incubator programming, and serve as a resource on teaching to their colleagues.

“We are delighted to welcome such a distinguished group to the program,” said director of the Incubator Christy Friend. “The new associates will bring exciting ideas and collaborations to expand the innovative teaching already happening in the college every day.”

The newly named associates will serve a two-year term beginning this fall. They will be joining the inaugural cohort of four associates who were named last spring:  Judith Kalb, Joseph November, Tammi Richardson and Ronda Sanders.
